What a wet week that was! Not good for the harvest! Thankfully we’d made a start on the milling wheat so that was safely in the store before the heavens opened.  Wet weather brings the combine harvesters to a complete standstill, a. because the crop won’t physically pass through the machine and b. the grain absorbs the water and even if you can get it out of a trailer into the drying shed it is not economically viable to dry the grain down to a storeable moisture content.  Things are looking a bit brighter this week and hopefully the combines will return on Wednesday.

Thankfully it has been an early year for the Chamomile harvest as the soaking it would have had last week would have wrecked the oil yield.
